A Farmers Market, a Spiritual Store, and a Swiss Lawyer

After a week of harvesting and fulfilling orders, the time finally came to prepare for the Saturday market. Meaning we have to basically harvest a little bit of everything to give us variety at the market. Including sweet peppers, hot peppers, cherry tomatoes, salad tomatoes, basil, okra, leeks, and corn. Additionally, we gathered previously harvested crops that are sitting around. Those included potatoes (red, yellow, and blue), garlic, red onions, squash, yellow onions, edamame, and hard-neck garlic.

In my completely unbiased opinion, we had the prettiest booth at the market. Definitely the most colorful (and tastiest). Also, it is nice to sort of sell the product to the customers for example: convincing them that they should purchase our purple bell peppers or shishimai peppers simply because they haven’t seen anything like that before.

I was fortunate enough to have my first experience inside a spiritual store and let me tell you; I walked out learning a lot more than I bargained for (which is always a good great thing). It began when I passed the store on the highway and of course, I’m always looking for interesting one-of-a-kind places and people, so I had to flip a u-ey. The lady first interrogated me when I walked in asking if I was the one throwing garbage in her recycling. I laughed and kindly let her know I have garbage cans at home, so I had no need for hers. We exchanged a little bit about ourselves and she filled me in on the significance of certain particular items in the store. Being raised in the store by her Cuban father, she definitely knew everything there was to know. She told me about the beliefs of some of the people in the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa. Wildy interesting stuff. I bought some soap to unearth the presence of Elegua in my life, that’s what the soap does according to her. Because of her kindness towards me, I promised to bring her some vegetables next weekend.

We just welcomed Mat, our newest woofer all the way from Bern, Switzerland. He’s very personable and eager to learn, which is honestly all someone needs to do this work. He’s a lawyer in Switzerland, focusing on contract law and a little criminal law. He’s got quite a grasp on many languages; which makes sense because Switzerland is geographically pinched by France, Germany, and Italy and a lot of those languages have drifted into the country. I still need to talk to him more to get to know him better.
