I love how there are so many swimming spots here. Under most bridges, you can find people cooling off, floating in the shallow pools. I went to one today, the closest one to my grandparents, and spent some time there wading in the shimmering streams.

I’m currently rooming with Mat, the Swiss lawyer, and it is great. Although he does snore pretty loudly during the night. But besides that, he’s very adventurous and is always in search of new people and experiences to add to his life’s resume. We’ve already exchanged many movies that according to each of us, any moviegoer must watch.

I was able to drop off the vegetables to the two lovely ladies at Spiritual Elegua, the best (and only) spiritual store I have been to. I promised them last week I would and they didn’t really believe me then. I had a bunch of vegetables this weekend and I was gonna deliver only some to Shalonda and Keisha and then the rest to my grandparents, but in the end, I gave them all to the two sisters. I don’t really know why I wanted to do it. Maybe it was her personality or maybe the charm of the store. It could just be the intrinsic urge to do nice things for people. Either way, they were grateful for the produce and are now looking to start a garden of their own.
Working the market I get to see and meet a lot of intriguing people. Sometimes there is a magnetic pull that makes me want to know more about someone. During my first weekend at the market, I was introduced to one of these magnetic people, but I only saw him because he was a distance away. Anyways, he just started singing really soulfully. Why? – I couldn’t tell you. The complete randomness of it was funny to me of course, but I moved on quickly.
Well, this weekend he strolled through our booth eating some cookies, and, of course, Aaron, being the thoughtful person he is, asks the man what he’s thankful for. The man replied, “Being able to live today”. Now, his response wasn’t that simple. Remember, this man has this alluring factor about him, and a plain response would not be fitting of that. He instead belted out his joy and gratefulness; closing his eyes, repeating phrases of praise to the Lord, and tapping his foot to the groove. Like the first time, I thought this was funny. I mean, no one does this. However, I’ve thought about it more and I now ask myself, why don’t people do that? There has been so much that has happened in the past that all leads up to our existence at this moment. Coincidences, mistakes, losses, triumphs, etc. Yet we are here now – conscience of our being. Feels like we did it against the odds. So, how can you not be so thankful that you sing it?
